A Little History of Netherland Indies….

The Dutch East India aka Netherland Indies was a Dutch colony since the early 1800s. It was not until after WWII that the Dutch had lost control and power over the colony. During WWII, Japan’s occupation weakened a majority of the Dutch economy and shortly after the Japanese surrendered ending WWII, Indonesian nationalists declared independence in 1945. This currency note is released by the Japanese during their occupation. On the front side, Japanese characters are printed on the bottom. It was reported by that approximately 4 million people died in Indonesia during the Japanese occupation.
