A Little History of Belgium…

So as many of you may know, Belgium no longer issues its own currency therefore this currency is no longer in circulation. Belgium became a member of the EU and along with other countries adopted the use of Euros in the 2002. So Belgium did not have much happening in 1964, but what I found fascinating was that it was at the 1964 World’s Fair held in New York, USA, did Americans fell in love with Belgian waffles. The World’s Fair introduced the new sensational Belgian waffles to Americans and MariePaule Vermersch who introduced the taste at the fair. She served around 2,500 waffles a day at the World’s Fair; that must tell how popular it was. Belgian waffles are topped with whipped cream and freshly slice strawberries. If you would like to read more about it and may give the recipe a try, here is an article about Belgian Waffles at the 1964 World’s Fair.
